Alright, time for a post on shastras.
I have read the shastras for more than one year and half.
Bhagavad Gita As It Is - the book of Srila Prabhupada that is not too thick or thin, just about the size you could finish in One week.
The whole idea about reading the shastras is getting yourself out of problems and bringing you to a Resourceful State.
Resourceful State means purifying you from problems you should not be worried about and helping you forget about them till you are in high spirits.
The Puranas are the rarest books of our Religion and they will stay with you for a long time.
The ancient puranas contain the stories, rituals and about creation of the universe.
The stories(kathayein) are the best inspiring ones to help you move further in your career.
These stories are the key to help you feel energetic and read them for just like 10 minutes per chapter.
See the Puranas are meant to be read with quality time and one must not read them hurriedly. Just read the them with an eager mind.
They will get over in around 2 years if you read them one book per month for around 3-4 hours everyday. It can be read faster if you read for more time however that suits you.
The important part is to complete them at the earliest date possible.
The Puranas must be read with an eager mind and must be respected in the way it's given to us.
These books should not be read for just finishing them. They have stories that will remain you for your entire life. Try to remember them, don't finish them in haste and dont forget them.
These stories are ancient and they must be remembered the way they are presented.
The Puranas are complete and they are jewels of the Hindu Religion and they make one feel proud of such books.
Puranas may seem difficult to read, or finish reading each book, but if you keep the patience you will even be able to plan and complete them with a planned schedule.
Puranas can even be read through an entire life. But if they can be read at the earliest date possible then it's the best.
Shastras are inspiring, motivating, and must be read at the earliest.
Don't disrespect these books by talking randomly or casually, they are written by the saints that deserve respect.
If still you find them difficult to read then be a little patient and read them slowly at a pace you are comfortable with. But you will finish them if you read them with a planned schedule.
Patience is the key. Don't just give up with these books in a day or week. You will find it difficult to read at the beginning, but once you become interested it will be engrossing and you will feel ecstatic while reading them.
Once you finish a purana celebrate a little bit and then begin with another one.
Puranas will give you a delightful experience because these books are ancient. If a novel could make you feel great then puranas can give you an unimaginable ecstasy after completing them.
Just hold a purana, feel the joy it gives you by holding them, that experience is a delightful experience and must be experienced by everyone.
Watch a few Youtube Videos of puranas unboxing, that itself will tempt you to buy them.
Whilst you read the puranas live the experience of these ancient books by talking about them with people so that others become aware about them as well.
The Puranas of Gitapress are the best.
There is an excellent book, Parlok aur Punarjanamank. This book is brilliant and was recommended by the book keeper. This book will make you feel ecstatic and blessed
Moving on to another book. Bhakt Charitank, this book will keep you engrossed with the history's greatest devotees and they make you feel proud to even just read about them. They have nearly all the characters you have read about in Ramayana , Mahabharata and other stories. This is the no. 1 book on the devotees. Story of the devotees is just about 1-3 pages.
Another great book is Upanishad Sangrah. The writing is easy and could easily be read in less than 2 weeks. A Book that I thoroughly enjoyed in just like 4-5 days.
The Gitapress website has a catalog of all the books. They have a great collection of whatever that suits you.
If still you don't understand call a Bookseller and ask them about the books that are interesting.
And that's about it. I will read a few more books and maybe write another post about them.
